According to Wikipedia, the free encylopaedia,
"Data Recovery is
the process of salvaging data from damaged, failed, wrecked
or inaccessible primary storage media when it cannot
be accessed normally."
This damage is usually caused by a failed Hard Disk Drive
(HDD) or a power surge, as happens in a brown-out, mainly
when the power comes back on. It can also be caused by a
storm, especially by lightning or even by a faulty Power
Supply Unit (PSU).
HolTech Services endeavours to provide a cheap method of
recovering your data. Most other Data Recovery services
start at a minimum of $1,000 and may cost as much as
$5,000-$10,000 for especially difficult and Enterprise-level
HDDs.
Usually at this price level, Data Recovery is only
worthwhile to large Corporations. HolTech Services is
capable of providing Data Recovery services much, much
cheaper than those mentioned above.
At the high prices mentioned above, the use
of "Clean Room" facilities may be utilised, where an
HDD may be dismantled in total safety, with no threat
of contaminants affecting the workings.
Sometimes the HDD platter may be required to be removed
and reinserted into an identical make/model of HDD.
Sometimes the electronics circuit board may be required
to be removed and replaced by one from an identical
make/model of HDD.
Both of these procedures require a Clean-Room facility,
especially removing the platter.
HolTech Services does not provide a Clean-Room facility,
but focuses on cheap Data Recovery accessible to most
Small Businesses, SOHO and Home PC users. This service
caters for the majority of Data Recovery situations, where
a Clean-Room facility is not required.
If your situation does require a Clean-Room
facility, we will notify you immediately and refer you
to various Businesses providing these types of
facilities.
If the HDD is visible in Windows, then we can recover
most, if not all, of the data.
If the HDD is visible in the BIOS, then we can
probably recover the data.
The most important point is to access the failed HDD
as little as possible once the failure has been discovered.
Each time the PC is Booted into Windows, the HDD is
written to and the potential is there for valuable data to
be lost.
Also, if the HDD is on the cusp of physical
failure, every use can be enough to push it over the
edge and cause the data to either be lost or to require
more exprensive processes (as descibed above) to recover
the lost data.
If the HDD is "clicking", even occasionally, the HDD
should cease to be used and the data copied to another
source. Other wise it may be lost for ever.
Many people associate Data Recovery and Disaster Recovery
as being synonymous, but in reality, Disaster Recovery could
be more aptly named "Disaster Prevention".
Once you have required Data Recovery services, you may
wish to take advantage of our Disaster Recovery
services to prevent the loss of data in the future.
